You Pay Meta's Price. Full Stop.
Meta changed how WhatsApp messages are billed. Per-message pricing since July 2025. Marketing rates up about 10% in April 2026. If you're on the API through a provider, you've probably re-read your bill recently. Good. Keep reading it.
This post isn't about Meta's changes. We covered those in our 2026 API updates guide and our Singapore pricing breakdown. This post is about a different line on your invoice. The one between Meta and you.
The markup nobody talks about
Meta charges per template message. In Singapore, roughly S$0.02 for utility messages and S$0.07 for marketing messages.
Many providers add a margin on top of those rates. A cent here, two cents there. It's allowed. It's common. And it's invisible unless you go looking, because most invoices show one blended number per message.
Two cents doesn't sound like much. Send 10,000 marketing messages a month and it's S$200. Every month. For a fee that bought you nothing.
And when Meta raised marketing rates by roughly 10% in April, any percentage markup rode straight up with it. The extra wasn't Meta. It was the margin on top.
Our position
You pay Meta's price. Full stop.
Whatever Meta charges for the message, that's what you pay. Zero markup. When Meta raised marketing rates in April, our customers' message costs went up by exactly Meta's increase. Not Meta's increase plus ours.
Why you can believe that
Don't believe it because we said it. Believe it because of where our money comes from.
chatavocado charges a monthly plan. Seed starts at $199/mo. That's the business. Message fees pass through at cost, and we'd earn the same whether you sent a hundred messages or fifty thousand.
A provider that profits per message profits when you send more. Their best month is your noisiest month. Our incentive runs the other way. The plan price is fixed, so the only way we look good is when the messages you send turn into bookings and paid invoices. Volume doesn't pay us. Results do.
Check your own bill
Don't take our word for any of this. Take ten minutes instead.
- Pull up your last invoice. The real one, with line items. Not the summary email.
- Find the per-message charges. Utility and marketing should be listed separately. If they're blended into one number, ask your provider for the breakdown. You're entitled to it.
- Compare each rate to Meta's published rate card. Meta lists per-message prices by country on its official pricing page.
Any gap between your rate and Meta's rate is the markup. Multiply it by your monthly volume. That's what the invisible line costs you per year. We keep Meta's current Singapore rates in one place if you want the numbers side by side.
If the numbers match, great. You have an honest provider. Stay put. If they don't, at least you now know what you're really paying for.
